Community Activities

We will have 2 BIG drives each year for canned goods and cash contributions to the Hawaii Food Basket Inc. (a 501c-3 non-profit). The 2016 dates? April 24 and Nov.13.

Aloha Spirit Day, held in February, was a community service project to help newcomers & visitors to the Big Island have a deeper experience of this special place. Speakers addressed environmental concerns, how to adjust to living here, how to select activities that are worthwhile, and the cultural importance of Hawaiian crafts and music. A photography show of underwater photos concluded the day after a buffet dinner enjoyed by 55 participants.

On July 4, 2014 Kailua-Kona’s 4th of July parade and community celebration was held, and UUWH marched in the parade.  Mahalo to Rod Crisp for organizing this fun event!

We celebrate Religious Freedom by participating in Kailua-Kona’s 4th of July parade.

“Feed the Children” – members are provided 2 days of meals for 24 homeless children at Edu-Camp in Honoka’a during the week of July 14th.  Mary Garris gets our thanks for organizing this meaningful event!
